Girls Inc. of Southwestern Connecticut programs include:

  • GirlStart – after school support program for girls ages 6 to 10. This program provides tutoring, homework assistance, and educationally-based recreational activities.
  • Teen Leadership - Teens learn to be leaders & participate in community service projects; girls develop & execute activities for teen girls in their community; participate college and career planning; field trips and special events; job training; participate in national Girls Inc. programs including literacy and prevention programs; scholarship opportunities
  • Dance - Classes and training in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip- Hop ( offered to ages from toddlers to 18) and includes opportunity to perform in community productions.
  • Sports/Fitness - Gymnastics; karate; dance, physical education and health programs
  • Girls Inc. National Programs: Media Literacy (ages 6 to 18) teaches girls about messages in the various forms of media and how to take action and teen girls can participate in building and contributing to the Girls Inc. of SWCT Cable TV show; Economic Literacy (ages 6 to 18) information ranges from basic financial information to rules and regulation of the labor market as well as college financing and investments.; Leadership and Community Action - Girls learn about female leaders; girls will learn the essential attributes to become a positive leader within themselves and throughout the community; girls design and participate in community action projects. SMART (science, math and relevant technology) - girls develop confidence in hands-on science and math enhancement work; Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy - a program that focuses on communication; assertiveness and the opportunity cost of early poor choices; Action For Safety -an anti-violence program ; girls will learn how to react in difficult situations, how to ask for help, and how to defend themselves in dangerous situations. Friendly Peersuasion (a drug and alcohol abuse prevention program for teens.
  • Summer Camp Programs and activities for girls 6 to 18. Nine week full day camp program for girls ages 6 to 14. The 6-10 year old summer camp is "Let’s Go Girl" a destination camp. Girls will "travel" throughout the world discovering foreign cultures and activities. The 11-14 summer camp "STARS" is a performance camp. Girls will learn skills in the areas of dance, singing, drama, art, and media literacy. The girls host a small performance at the end of every week to showcase what they have learned.
  • Music and art - Singing, performance, music literacy, art and photography.
  • Mother and daughter workshops and programs throughout the year to provide special opportunities and bolster parental involvement.
