The Making of the Mid-Campaign Report - http://youtu.be/Kx6SEQFjg-4WATERBURY – December 19, 2011 – In a unique football-themed halftime show produced by Waterbury Arts Magnet School students, United Way of Greater Waterbury released the financial status of this year’s annual campaign in the mid-campaign report.
This year’s campaign co-chairs, Dr. Peter Jacoby of St. Mary’s Health System and Paul Largay of Largay Travel served as the coaches for the segment and former television anchor, Jon Crane, interviewed them about the various standings of their “players.” They revealed that just over 47 percent of the $3.6 million goal has been reached in the 2011-2012 mid-campaign report.
As of December 14, 2011 United Way of Greater Waterbury has raised $1,707,404 out of the $3.6 million goal. At this time last year, $1,857,840 out of the $3.5 million goal was raised, which was about 53 percent of the total goal in 2010.
Kristin Jacoby, Chief Professional Officer, said, “This year we wanted to collectively and collaboratively involve many people in the Greater Waterbury community with the mid-campaign report. In showing the value in supporting the United Way of Greater Waterbury Campaign we are trying to remind everyone that we keep local dollars here to help local people in need. These dollars fund several programs at local agencies that assist with basic needs, education and income, which is how United Way aims to make a difference.”
To name a few highlights in this year’s campaign, leading contributor, Webster Bank, raised $1.2 million this fall and doubled the number of Tocqueville givers, which are those who give in excess of $10,000. People’s United Bank implemented a first-time employee match program where the bank matched 50 cents for every dollar raised.
Crystal Rock offered a Fair-Share Program where employees receive a day off for contributing one percent of their salary. Chemtura hosted two staff Lunch & Learn sessions where pizza was provided to more than 160 employees while United Way of Greater Waterbury representatives highlighted the benefits of giving through the annual campaign.
