15th Annual Stock the Pantry a Success!

Stock the Pantry is an annual initiative that is held to directly help local food pantries stock their shelves with healthy foods for the summer months. As you you know, United Way of Greater Waterbury had to adjust our plans this year to help keep everyone safe while still meeting this greater need in direct response to the effects of COVID-19. We could not let our food pantry partners down!

We adjusted our plans and went completely virtual this year, raising dollars instead of cans.

We asked - and you responded with $29,597 with donations from $2 on up! This translates into approximately 9,051 meals that will be provided to those in need through our food pantry partners!

The most recent survey we have, conducted in 2019, indicates that 20% of Waterbury adults were unable to provide adequate food for their family at some point in the year. This percentage jumps to 43% when poverty is taken into account. Of course, the pandemic and related unemployment have significantly increased the demand on our soup kitchens and food pantries.
Thanks to each and every one of you who donated, help will be there when it is needed this summer!

A BIG THANK YOU to our Stock the Pantry Chairs Marya DiPerna of Post University and Jennifer Carbonaro of Webster Bank and the United Way Emerging Leaders and UPSTARTERS who created promotional videos and graphics which were critical to the success of this year's virtual effort!
