The Leavenworth Society
The Leavenworth Society of United Way of Greater Waterbury, Inc. bestows recognition upon those individuals who make especially generous contributions. The Society was founded by United Way in honor of Elisha Leavenworth (1814-1911), a prominent citizen of our local community who believed that human caring is the key to a healthy society.
The Society fosters, promotes and recognizes the vital importance of personal giving at an exceptional level. Membership allows individuals to affirm their deep commitment to address critical community needs. The example set by these extraordinary people, in the spirit expressed by Elisha Leavenworth, will have a major impact on the future health of the Greater Waterbury community.

The Society represents the French historian's admiration for our country's spirit of voluntary effort for the common good,
as well as recognizes this resolute commitment to service on both local and national levels. Membership in the Society is granted to individuals who contribute at least $10,000 annually to the United Way. Nationwide, over 20,000 members donate more than $400 million through 398 Societies.
